Know the fiber

Read the composition label. Wool, wool blend and military-inspired knitwear are different descriptions. Decide what material you want before using the lowest price as your comparison.

Check actual dimensions

Ask for chest width, sleeve length and back length. Knits can stretch or shrink, so a familiar label is not enough. Compare measurements with a sweater you wear comfortably.

Inspect the knit

Look for moth holes, thin elbows, stretched cuffs and repairs. Ask about storage condition and any cleaning already done. Follow care guidance for the known fiber rather than assuming ordinary machine washing is suitable.
